Gabrielle Aghion was a French fashion designer best known for founding her wildly popular fashion label Chloé. She launched Chloé in 1952 and in 1953 Jacques Lenoir came onboard to take care of the business element of the brand. Aghion was tired of the stiff, rigid direction that 1950s fashion was headed in, and launched Chloé as a way of turning the tide. She coined the term “pret-a-porter” and specialised in beautifully made luxury designs straight off the rack. She was one of the first designers to notice the genius of Karl Lagerfeld, and took him under her wing in the 60s as a designer. Gabrielle continued to run Chloé until 1985, and she passed away in 2014 aged 93.
